Course Description: This module has been developed to provide clinical laboratory scientists with information about laboratory biosecurity. Laboratory managers may consider using this course to assess their staff's ability to develop a biosecurity plan based on risk assessment.
The module contains general information about the need for laboratory biosecurity and how to develop a biosecurity plan based on risk assessment.This is followed by a scenario involving a team of laboratorians who develop a biosecurity plan for their facility.
Throughout the scenario, you will have an opportunity to make decisions that mirror those you will encounter on the job.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the similarities and differences between laboratory biosecurity and biosafety
- Identify biosecurity threats and vulnerabilities
- Explain how to conduct a laboratory biosecurity risk assessment and how to formulate a biosecurity plan
- List the elements and principles of a biosecurity plan
