Washington Updates
FY 2013 President’s Budget
The FY 2013 President’s Budget was released on February 13, 2012. The Injury Center will receive $137.75 million for injury prevention and control, a net increase of $61,000 above the FY 2012 level. This will allow NCIPC to sustain efforts to prevent injuries and violence nationally and in states across the country. This will include maintaining state prevention capacity (including education and outreach) and increasing program evaluation activities within the Rape Prevention and Education program. A summary of the budget request and the full CDC and ATSDR Congressional justifications can be accessed on CDC’s web site.
FY 2012 NCIPC Appropriation
In FY 2012, NCIPC received an appropriation of $137.693 million, a reduction of more than $6 million dollars from FY 2011. The appropriation includes $15 million total funding for youth violence prevention (a reduction of $4.8 million), a $0.5 million reduction for the Injury Control Research Centers, and a reduction of more than $0.7 million that accounts for NCIPC’s portion of a $20 million total reduction for administrative savings that was to be applied across CDC, and a rescission of 0.189% applied to all CDC budget lines. This year’s appropriation also included a separate account for each major budget line, including injury prevention and control. Other changes include implementation of a working capital fund to support business service costs and expanded language related to lobbying restrictions on federal funds.
