Initial Fiscal Year: 2009
FOA Number: EM09-902
FOA Title: Advancement Project- Congressional Project
The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to support a comprehensive public health approach to reduce gang violence in Los Angeles, California. Assessments of gang reduction efforts in the region have concluded that these activities were not informed by best practices and research, nor were they evaluated to determine level of success. Specifically, the purpose of these funds is to support a one year planning process by multi-disciplinary academic researchers to design and launch the Violence Reduction Applied Research Institute. This effort will include developing operational protocols, establishing a governance structure, and identifying research and policy priorities that systematically integrate evidence based practices.
This program addresses the “Healthy People 2010” focus areas of Injury and Violence Prevention.
Measurable outcomes of the program will be in alignment with one (or more) of the following performance goal(s) for the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC): Increase the capacity of injury prevention and control programs to address the prevention of injuries and violence.
