The purpose of this program is to develop and support core public health functions related to injury prevention and control, focusing on the NCIPC priority areas (e.g., child maltreatment, senior fall prevention and residential fire prevention) as well as other emerging injury related public health issues. Additionally, the program will strengthen core public health infrastructure including capacity, surveillance, work force development, promising practices and program interventions to decrease injuries and their consequences among large and diverse populations.
Measurable outcomes of the program will be in alignment with one or more of the following performance goals for the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC):
• Increase the capacity of injury prevention and control programs to address prevention of injuries and violence.
• Monitor and detect fatal and non-fatal injuries.
This program addresses the “Healthy People 2010” focus area(s) of Injury and Violence Prevention.
