STEADI Tool Kit: Instructional Videos for Health Care Providers

Falls can be devastating but in most cases, they can be prevented.  Below are three simple assessment tests healthcare providers can do in their office to assess their patient’s risk of falling. These are tests of mobility (The Timed Up and Go (TUG) test), strength (the 30-Second Chair Stand test), and balance (The 4-Stage Balance Test). To perform each test, a chair with a straight back and a stop watch is needed.  Please refer to the videos and documents below for specific instructions on how to conduct each assessment test.

Timed Up and Go (TUG) Test

Health care providers can use this test to assess mobility. See our simple instructions, and watch the short video on how to conduct the test.

If the video doesn’t load, hit F5 once or twice to see if it works. If the problem persists, please call 404-639-6000 for the Service Desk.

30-Second Chair Stand Test

Health care providers can use this test to assess leg strength and endurance. See our simple instructions, and watch the short video on how to conduct the test.

4-Stage Balance Test

Health care providers can use this test to assess balance. See our simple instructions, and watch the short video on how to conduct the test.
