• How are providers and patients chosen?

  Providers and patients are chosen using scientific methods, without names or other identifying information.

• What is my role as a health care provider if selected?

  Providers of HIV care are essential to the success of MMP. MMP has great potential to shape the future of HIV care, treatment, prevention, and support services. You will assist health department staff in gathering the information needed to facilitate patient participation and encourage patients to participate. By participating, you are representing providers like you who were not selected.

• Do I still play a role even if my facility is not selected during the sampling process?

  Yes, providing your estimated patient load to the health department is an important contribution to MMP even if you are not selected. Health care providers may play a role in future project years as new samples of providers are selected.

• What if I choose not to participate as a health care provider?

  If you choose not to participate, you will be refusing participation for ALL of your patients. You will NOT be replaced by another provider in the sample. Maximizing participation of selected providers and their patients increases the likelihood of obtaining data that is truly representative of patients in care for HIV, in your area (city/state/region), and across the U.S.

• How much of my time will be involved?

  State and local health department staff will conduct all data collection activities so that your staff and services to patients are not disrupted. You will be asked to have a staff member provide patient lists for patient selection. The amount of time it takes to create these lists is based on each participating facility.

• Which areas are participating in MMP?

  The following areas are participating: California; Chicago, IL; Delaware; Florida; Georgia; Houston, TX; Illinois; Indiana; Los Angeles, CA; Michigan; Mississippi; New Jersey; New York City, NY; New York; North Carolina; Oregon; Pennsylvania; Philadelphia, PA; Puerto Rico; San Francisco, CA; Texas; Virginia; and Washington.

Provider Advisory Board (PAB)

The national provider advisory board (PAB) is made up of experts in HIV care from each project area representing providers from small, medium, large, urban, and rural medical facilities. The PAB collaborates with local and national MMP staff and HIV care providers and provides significant input on how data are collected and what important questions MMP can answer. PAB members also provide facility and patient recruitment strategies and increase project awareness within the medical community.
