1Total includes 1,610 cases with unknown race/ethnicity.
Note. These numbers do not represent actual cases of HIV infection, but rather are point estimates adjusted for delays in the reporting of HIV cases and deaths, but not for incomplete reporting. US totals presented in this report include data from the United States (50 states and the District of Columbia) and from US dependencies, possessions, and independent nations in free association with the United States. Data were reported through June 2002. Persons with unknown state or area of residence were excluded. The sum of the demographic categories may not equal the total estimate due to rounding.
