May
19th is National Asian and Pacific
Islander (API) HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This
observance day intends to raise awareness
among Asians and Pacific Islanders in the
U.S. about the devastating impact of
HIV/AIDS.
Asians
and Pacific Islanders account for
approximately 1% of the total number of
HIV/AIDS cases in the United States.
However, Asians and Pacific Islanders are
likely to face challenges associated with
the risk for HIV infection, especially in
some regions of the country and for some
specific ethnicities within the broader
Asian and Pacific Islander group.
