New Resources for HIV testing in non-clinical settings

Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention released two new resources to support non-clinical HIV testing programs:

These new program guides were developed by CDC and an advisory group consisting of health departments and community-based organizations. The advisory group helped identify best practices on topics including: conducting agency and community assessments, identifying appropriate testing venues, selecting HIV test technology, and implementing strategies to linking HIV-positive clients into medical care.

Planning and Implementing HIV Testing and Linkage Programs in Non-Clinical Settings: A Guide for Program Managers is designed to support HIV testing program managers as they monitor, plan and implement HIV testing and linkage services. The Evaluation Field Guide for HIV Testing and Linkage Programs in Non-Clinical Settings uses CDC’s framework for program evaluation and is intended to provide Program and Health Department staff with tools and information necessary to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of HIV testing and linkage programs. These resources are available for download under the Public Health Strategies tab at www.effectiveinterventions.org.

These resources are intended to complement existing and future program guidance on HIV testing in non-clinical settings and will be updated as new information on HIV testing in non-clinical settings becomes available.

Program guidance for HIV testing in non-clinical settings is expected to be released in 2013.
