Physical Activity
Kentucky is seeking to increase the percentage of schools that
offer intramural activities or physical activity clubs for all students, including
those with disabilities.
Activities
- Partner with the Kentucky Out of School Alliance to develop and distribute at least two resources for schools on creating physical activity clubs and intramurals for students.
Nutrition
Kentucky is seeking to increase the percentage of schools
in which the lead health education teacher received professional development on
nutrition education and dietary behavior during the past two years.
Activities
- Provide professional development to at least 75 secondary health education
teachers on nutrition education, how to use the National Health Education Standards,
and resources for student assessment.
- Provide professional development to a minimum of 100 teachers on the new Practical Living/Career Studies Program Review that will include nutrition education.
Tobacco
Kentucky is seeking to increase the percentage of schools that
follow a policy that mandates a tobacco-free environment. A tobacco-free environment is
one that prohibits tobacco use by students, staff, and visitors in school buildings,
at school functions, in school vehicles, on school grounds, and at off-site school
events, applicable 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
Activities
- Leverage partnerships to assist at least 10 schools in the implementation of 24/7 tobacco-free school campuses through skills-building meetings and follow-up support.
