Institute for Youth Development (IYD)

IYD promotes a comprehensive risk-avoidance message for youth regarding the most common risk behaviors: alcohol, drugs, sexual activity, tobacco, and violence. IYD assists a national network of policymakers, community leaders, youth-serving agencies, school-based abstinence educators, and community and faith-based organizations to promote sexual abstinence among teens.

IYD's Program in Action

IYD is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance for Promoting Sexual Abstinence: Youth Development Strategies.

  • Implementing three regional capacity-building workshops on integrating and expanding positive youth development strategies in abstinence education programs.
  • Providing four 1-hour Web casts on positive youth development strategies and program development and implementation.
  • Providing technical assistance and resources on positive youth development principles and practices and program development and implementation (via telephone, email, mail, in person).
