AIDS Alliance for Children, Youth, and Families was established in 1994 to give voice to the needs of women, children, youth, and families living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.
With DASH funding, AIDS Alliance has developed the Girls 4 HOPE (Health Opportunities, Prevention, and Education) Program to build the capacity of HIV prevention program staff from community-based organizations (CBOs) to initiate and improve HIV prevention programs for African American and Latina teen girls and their parents.
AIDS Alliance's Program in Action
AIDS Alliance is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance for Preventing HIV Infections: Organizations that Serve African American and Latina Females.
- Identifying at least six CBOs, through a competitive application process, to participate in the Girls 4 HOPE Program and receive capacity building assistance on Organizational Development, Parental Empowerment & Sexual Health Communication, or Adolescent Female Empowerment & Leadership Development.
- Conducting a comprehensive needs assessment with at least six CBOs to determine their level of competence at providing HIV prevention programs for African American and Latina teen girls, and using the results of the needs assessment to develop an individualized capacity building assistance plan for each CBO.
- Providing training, technical assistance, and six months of follow-up support to assist at least six CBOs in initiating and/or expanding HIV prevention programs for African American and Latina teen girls and their parents.
- Providing training and technical assistance to a minimum of 80 service providers to build their capacity for providing HIV prevention education and services to African American and Latina teen girls.
