Program Descriptions

CDC works with Ministries of Health, universities and non-governmental organizations to strengthen public health leadership and management capacity. Currently, CDC has active collaborations with eight countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe to develop sustainable management capacity. Previously, CDC collaborated with eight other countries. Public health outcomes of these collaborations have included improved immunization coverage, tuberculosis treatment, bed net usage, and adherence to HIV/AIDS treatment protocols.

Countries and programs with whom CDC works direct their own efforts to assess and develop management capabilities, enhance organizational operations, address quality standards, and promote policy and systems change. CDC supports them with mentoring, technical assistance, training, and access to CDC subject matter experts.

Vietnam, Botswana Recognized for Leadership and Management Achievements

Vietnam and Botswana were recognized recently for outstanding achievements in management and leadership development, taking second and third place, respectively, in the 2009 international MSH Leadership and Management Awards. The Hanoi School of Public Health and the HIV/AIDS Management Training Program in Vietnam collaborated to improve quality health care in Vietnam through leadership and management practices. The Institute for Development Management team and the Kgatleng District Council in Botswana improved access to essential medications for chronic illness from 48% to 80% in five clinics in the district.
