Global Disease Detection Operations Center: Outbreak Response

To ensure that a CDC international response is not delayed because of financial limitations of any CDC program, the GDD Operations Center has an outbreak contingency fund to support travel of CDC experts, supplies, and shipping of specimens as needed. The GDD Operations Center deployed 67 experts to 12 countries to assist with 2009 H1N1 field investigations from April-July 2009, and sent staff in support of the GOARN team to Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Argentina and Chile.

The Operations Center deployed CDC experts to 24 countries from 2006-2009 to support outbreaks in addition to H1N1, including:

Avian influenza (H5N1) ,Cholera and Plague, Ebola and Marburg , Rift Valley fever Monkeypox, Polio, Typhoid, Unknown illnesses
