Global Health Security

The Global Health Security Branch is Center for Global Health’s lead office for partnership engagement with other U.S. government entities, multilateral institutes, and international organizations to promote mutual strategies, research, and policies aimed at improving global health security. The branch provides global health security leadership and coordination in over 50 countries, with the end goal of improving a country’s capacity to detect and effectively respond to public health emergencies of international concern.

To accomplish this goal, the branch leverages a variety of U.S. government resources to achieve its public health objectives of assisting other countries to successfully implement the International Health Regulations (IHR). Specific activities include:

• Partnering with other U.S. agencies focused on defense and diplomacy
• Supporting the intersection of public health and national security interests
• Developing and monitoring disease surveillance systems
• Promoting development of safe laboratory systems and diagnostics
