International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) Program

Only HHS FTE employees and Commissioned Corps officers are eligible for the IETA program.

Are you an HHS employee looking for an outstanding opportunity to gain experience in global public health work? Then, the International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) program may be for you. Since 1997, CDC has provided meaningful global health experiences to over 480 HHS employees.

The IETA program is a 12-month program offered by CDC’s Global Health Center that is designed to offer HHS employees the opportunity to gain global public health experience, while providing technical assistance to CDC country offices and partners. Selected applicants participate in a program orientation, one week-long security training required for all international travel, a 12-week minimum international field assignment in a country where CDC works, and a closing meeting where participants present on their experience. Participants must successfully complete their field assignment by September 1 to earn an IETA program completion certificate.

About Our Program

IETA provides its participants with an opportunity to gain experience in the international public health sector while supporting personnel needs of CDC programs as organizations benefit from IETA assignees’ technical skills and abilities.
