Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS
The CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) Zimbabwe office opened in July 2000. Since then, CDC has been supporting Zimbabwe's Ministry of Health and Child Welfare through efforts to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission, behavior change activities, HIV testing and counseling services, comprehensive palliative care, antiretroviral treatment expansion, and laboratory capacity strengthening.

In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC GAP Zimbabwe became a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
