GAPPNet SpotlightCDC-Supported Family Healthware Study Methods Released
This month, the American Journal of Preventive Medicine published a paper that describes the methodology of an evaluation study of Family Healthware. Family Healthware is a web-based tool developed by CDC’s Office of Public Health Genomics for collecting family health history and assessing disease risk. The study was conducted by the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Research Institute, and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Read the methods paper. Also available in PDF (PDF 263KB). Read about Family Healthware and preliminary results of this study.

Announcements

  • CDC's Office of Public Health Genomics is recruiting health care providers from multiple disciplines (genetic counselors, general practitioners, oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, gastroenterologists, nurse practitioners, physicians’ assistants, etc) to participate in a health message survey for educational materials on the new EGAPP recommendation for Lynch Syndrome genetic testing. The survey will be conducted in July/August 2009 and will take participants about one hour to complete. To participate, please contact Sara Bedrosian.
  • The National Institutes of Health hosts the State-of-the-Science Conference: Family History and Improving Health on August 24-26, 2009 at the Natcher Conference Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Deadline for Online Registration: August 21, 2009. Click here to register online.
