The supplement includes preliminary surveillance data for 2011 data on the most current trends in overall foodborne illness incidence with a comparison to the data from 1996 to 1998, the first three years of surveillance; trends in specific pathogens, such as listeria; data on infections linked to travel and animal contact; gender differences in food consumption from the 2006-2007 FoodNet Population Survey; and the effect of new testing methods on tracking foodborne illness in the future.
