Science Ambassador Lecturer Biography

    Muscular Dystrophy

    This presentation outlined the genetic causes of muscular dystrophy, types of muscular dystrophy, and treatments available for muscular dystrophy. This session also focused on difficulties surrounding research of muscular dystrophy and highlighted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Muscular Dystrophy Surveillance, Tracking and Research Network (MD STARnet), a surveillance system that investigates muscular dystrophy distribution, services, and care.  

    Aileen Kenneson, MS, PhD

    Dr. Aileen Kenneson has a PhD in genetics and molecular biology and an MS in genetic counseling. She has worked on projects related to fragile X syndrome and on the etiology of congenital hearing loss. She is currently working as an epidemiologist at National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities where she leads a program on muscular dystrophy.
