Age-Adjusted Rates of Diagnosed Diabetes per 100 Civilian, Non-Institutionalized Population, by Race, United States, 1980–2014

From 1990 to 2009, the age-adjusted rates of diagnosed diabetes per 100 U.S. civilian, non–institutionalized population increased 140% (from 2.5 to 6.0) for whites and 106% (from 4.7 to 9.7) for blacks. Rates in these two groups changed little from 1980 to 1990 and from 2009 to 2014. The age-adjusted rates for Asians increased 103% (from 3.3 to 6.7) from 1997 to 2010 and then the rates changed little from 2010 to 2014. No data were available for Asians prior to 1997. The race groups include people of both Hispanic and non-Hispanic origin.
