Age-Adjusted Death Rates for Hyperglycemic Crises as Underlying Cause per 100,000 Diabetic Population, by Race and Sex, United States, 1980–2009

From 1980 through 2009, black males were disproportionately affected by hyperglycemic crises mortality compared with other race-sex groups. Throughout the period, the age-adjusted death rates for hyperglycemic crises were highest among black males and lowest among white females. In 2009, the hyperglycemic crises death rate was 42.6 per 100,000 diabetic population among black males, 19.5 among white males, 16.0 among black females, 11.7 among white females.
