Age-Adjusted Hospital Discharge Rates for Nontraumatic Lower Extremity Amputation per 1,000 Diabetic Population, by Sex, United States, 1988–2009

From 1988 to 2009, the age-adjusted hospital discharge rate for nontraumatic lower extremity amputation per 1,000 diabetic population was higher among males than among females. In 2009, the age-adjusted rate among males was almost twice that among females (4.1 vs 2.2 per 1,000 diabetic population).
