Age-Adjusted Hospital Discharge Rates for Diabetes as Any-Listed Diagnosis per 10,000 Population, United States, 1980–2005
From 1980 through 2005, the age-adjusted hospital discharge rate for diabetes as any-listed diagnosis in the general population increased about 59% (from 109.0 to 172.8 per 10,000 general population). This contrasts with the decreasing trend in age-adjusted hospital discharge rates for diabetes as any-listed diagnosis per 1,000 diabetic population, indicating that the prevalence of diabetes is increasing within the general U.S. population.
