Crude and Age-Adjusted Hospital Discharge Rates for Stroke as First-Listed Diagnosis per 1,000 Diabetic Population, United States, 1980–2003

Crude and age-adjusted rates for stroke as first-listed diagnosis per 1,000 diabetic population increased from 1980 to 1984, leveled off throughout the rest of the 1980s and most of the 1990s. After peaking in 1995, rates declined. The age-adjusted rate in 2003 (8.7 per 1,000 diabetic population) was similar to the rate in 1980 (8.5 per 1,000 diabetic population).
