Age-Adjusted Hospital Discharge Rates for Heart Failure as First-Listed Diagnosis per 10,000 Population,
United States, 1980–2003

In general, the age-adjusted rate of hospital discharge for heart failure as first-listed diagnosis increased throughout the time period and was 330% higher in 2003 (13.3 per 10,000 population) than 1980 (3.1 per 10,000 population).
