Age-Adjusted Hospital Discharge Rates for Heart Failure as First-Listed Diagnosis per 1,000 Diabetic Population, United States, by Race, 1980–2003

Age-adjusted hospital discharge rates for heart failure as first-listed diagnosis per 1,000 diabetic population were similar for whites and blacks from 1980 until the late 1980s when they began to diverge. In 2003, the rates for blacks were nearly twice of those for whites (21.7 vs. 13.6 per 1,000 diabetic population).
