Age-Adjusted Hospital Discharge Rates for Congestive Heart Failure as First-Listed Diagnosis per 1,000 Diabetic Population, by Race, United States 1988–2006

From 1988 to 2006, the age-adjusted hospital discharge rates for heart failure as first-listed diagnosis per 1,000 diabetic population decreased among whites. However, among blacks, no clear trend was detected during this time period. Throughout the period, the age-adjusted rate was higher among blacks than among whites. In 2006, the rate among blacks was nearly twice the rate among whites (17.7 vs. 9.3 per 1,000 diabetic population).
