Age-Adjusted Hospital Discharge Rates for Major Cardiovascular Disease as First-Listed Diagnosis per 1,000 Diabetic Population, by Sex, United States, 1980–2003

For men, age-adjusted rates of hospital discharge for major cardiovascular disease as first-listed diagnosis per 1,000 diabetic population increased from 1980 through 1996. In the mid 1990s, rates began to decrease for both men and women. In 2003, the age-adjusted discharge rate for major cardiovascular disease as first-listed diagnosis per 1,000 diabetic population was 59.1 for men and 54.1 for women.
