Percentage of Adults Aged 60 Years or Older with Diagnosed Diabetes Who Needed Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL),* by Age, United States, 1997–2008

From 1997 to 2008, the percentage of adults aged 60 years or older with diagnosed diabetes who needed assistance with ADL, such as eating, dressing, getting into or out of a bed or chair, taking a bath or shower, or using the toilet, remained stable. Throughout the time period, the percentage of adults who needed assistance with ADL was higher among adults aged 75 years or older than among adults aged 60–74 years. In 2008, the percentage of adults aged 75 years or older who needed assistance with ADL was about twice that of adults aged 60–74 years (15.9% vs 7.3%).
