Image of the state of Missouri The Missouri Diabetes Prevention and Control Program (DPCP) has received funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since 1981 except during 1986-89. Activities of the Missouri DPCP include the following:

Diabetes workgroup. This group is developing reports based on diabetes-related data from vital statistics, hospital discharge records, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey, end-stage renal disease records, and other sources.

Task forces. These groups develop guidelines and strategies for home health and school health nursing, the prevention of diabetic visual impairment, and community empowerment campaigns.

Community empowerment campaigns. The Missouri DPCP is conducting campaigns in Kansas City and rural southeastern Missouri based on the "Diabetes Today" course.

In-service and training courses for home health and community health professionals.

Missouri Diabetes Directory. A public information service on the Internet, the directory was developed in collaboration with the University of Missouri and the Missouri affiliate of the American Diabetes Association.

Missouri Diabetes Prevention and Control Program Advisory Committee. The committee, which includes representatives of major organizations, agencies, and institutions concerned with diabetes in Missouri, helps the Missouri DPCP plan and implement strategies to reduce the burden of diabetes in Missouri.
