State-Based Diabetes Prevention & Control ProgramsAlaska
Surveillance. The AKDPCP uses Alaska Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data, Vital Statistics, and other state and public data to define the burden of diabetes and to monitor health outcomes in Alaska. Coordination. The AKDPCP works with other agencies to develop consistent health care messages and education programs for consumers and health care professionals. It supports the statewide Diabetes Advisory Board, which is committed to preventing and controlling diabetes in Alaska. Technical Assistance. The AKDPCP provides technical support to community-based diabetes intervention programs and to two Federally Qualified Health Centers serving high-risk populations with diabetes. The AKDPCP also supports two public health nurses who provide services and education in their Alaskan communities. Public Awareness. The AKDPCP works with its partners to increase public awareness of diabetes, including risks and complications.
