Northcon122 Record Converter: NAACCR 12.1 to NAACCR 12.2
(first release, version 1.0.0, December 5, 2011)

Northcon122.exe, a freestanding program for Microsoft® Windows®, converts files of cancer registry records from NAACCR 12.1 to NAACCR 12.2, which are data formats prescribed by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). Input files should conform to NAACCR version 12.1. Converted output files will contain records in the NAACCR 12.2 record layout. See the program's online help for usage instructions.

Northcon122.exe uses three dynamic link libraries (DLL): nconv122.dll, rpnaaccr.dll, and cstage.dll. The setup package available here contains the latest public release of all of them. Nconv122.dll is a programmers' library that contains several functions to perform record-by-record conversion when called by northcon122.exe or other programs. This is the same conversion DLL used by other Registry Plus software. Rpnaaccr.dll is used to identify characteristics of the files being submitted to northcon122.exe for processing. Cstage.dll version 020440 is the current Collaborative Staging Data Collection System software for NAACCR 12.2. It is used by nconv122.dll to make conversion decisions based on Collaborative Stage schemas, and by northcon122.exe to perform (optional) derivations of stage upon NAACCR 12.2 records as they are converted.

The setup package contains a C/C++ header file and link library for programmers as well as a description of the application program interface and source code for a sample program using nconv121.dll.

  • Download the latest version of northcon122.exe, setup_northcon122_1.0.0.exe (executable file, 1,409KB, November 23, 2011) to your computer. This program will install Northcon122 without disturbing previous conversions.
  • Run the program to install the software.

If you need just the DLLs to perform conversion with a program other than northcon122.exe, just copy them from the same directory where you install northcon122.exe. Please note that use of nconv122.dll with your own programs will also require cstage.dll, included in this setup package, for its operation.

Release Notes

  • December 5, 2011: First public release of northcon122.exe and nconv122.dll.

Northcon121 Record Converter: NAACCR 12.0 to NAACCR 12.1
(fourth release, version 1.0.3, September 14, 2011)

Northcon121.exe, a freestanding program for Microsoft® Windows®, converts files of cancer registry records from NAACCR 12.0 to NAACCR 12.1. Input files should conform to NAACCR version 12.0. Converted output files will contain records in the NAACCR 12.1 record layout. See the program's online help for usage instructions.

The setup package contains a C/C++ header file and link library for programmers as well as a description of the application program interface and source code for a sample program using nconv121.dll.

  • Download the latest version of northcon121.exe, setup_northcon121_1.0.3.exe (executable file, 917KB, September 14, 2011) to your computer. This program will install Northcon121 over any previous version.
  • Run the program to install the software.

If you need just the DLLs to perform conversion with a program other than northcon121.exe, just copy them from the same directory where you install northcon121.exe. Please note that use of nconv121.dll with your own programs will also require cstage.dll, included in this setup package, for its operation.

Release Notes

  • May 12, 2011: First public release of northcon121.exe and nconv121.dll.
  • July 27, 2011: Second release to correct problems with the user interface. The update corrects a problem with the user interface which often made the program appear to be unresponsive and sometimes to actually be unresponsive. It does not incorporate any changes to the conversion algorithm, and previous successful conversions do not need to be redone.
  • August 25, 2011: Third public release. This installer corrects problems in dealing with long path names for data files and path names containing spaces.
  • September 14, 2011: Fourth public release. This release corrects an error in the handling of staging options within the nconv121.dll. The previous versions did not completely comply with the user's selection of which staging systems to apply: 1) SEER Summary Stage 1977, 2) SEER Summary Stage 2000, and 3) AJCC Stage Group. A choice of 1) or 2) alone worked properly, as did a choice of all staging systems. The choice of 1) and 2) did not exclude 3). The remaining combinations failed to deliver 3) the AJCC Stage outputs. Also, the Help file has been updated.

Northcon12 Record Converter: NAACCR 11.x to NAACCR 12

Converting directly from earlier versions of NAACCR-standard records, such as NAACCR 11, to NAACCR 12.1 has been deemed infeasible because of the manual review required following conversion from NAACCR 11 to NAACCR 12.1. If your records are in NAACCR 11.x, complete the following two-step process:

  1. Convert your records from 11, 11.1, 11.2, or 11.3 to NAACCR 12. Download Northcon12, setup_northcon12_1.0.3.exe (executable file, 917KB, October 18, 2010) and run it on your computer.
  2. Convert your records from NAACCR 12 to NAACCR 12.1. Download the latest version of northcon121.exe using the link above and run it on your computer.

Release Notes

  • October 15, 2010: Corrected a bug which prevented Northcon12 from processing files which contained a Control-Z character at the end of the file or omitted carriage return and linefeed from the last record of a file that contained those characters in all other records. Replaced rpnaaccr.dll with a new version.
  • August 3, 2010: Updated nconv12.dll conversion library and northcon12.exe program according to revised implementation guidelines from Collaborative Staging (CS site-specific factors) and North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (Class of Case).
  • June 1, 2010: Released new conversion program to produce NAACCR 12.0 records.

Recnizer File Identifier

Recnizer is a Utility Program used to identify files of cancer registry abstracts in formats prescribed by NAACCR. It is useful in quickly determining the characteristics of files that are received from an outside source. The utility can be used to test files for validity that have caused unexplained problems for other software.

Download the latest version of Recnizer, setup_recnizer_1.1.2.exe (executable file, 353KB, August 22, 2011) to your computer. Run the setup program to install the software.

Release Notes

  • May 17, 2011: This revision is updated from previous releases in that it will recognize NAACCR version 12.1 data layouts.
  • August 22, 2011: Updated to identify additional file types.
