Georgia Comprehensive Cancer Registry
- Identifying Breast Cancer Screening Areas of Need: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer incidence, and the second leading cause of cancer death, in Georgia women. Almost 5,300 malignant breast cancer cases are diagnosed and 1,100 women die of breast cancer every year in Georgia.
- Identifying Breast Cancer Screening Service Gaps: Certain areas of Georgia have higher proportions of women who qualify for free or low-cost breast cancer screening services but reside in counties that have no mammography facilities, leaving them at risk of a late-stage diagnosis.
- Web-Based Training to Improve Data Quality: As the cancer data set expands and rules change, ongoing training is needed to improve coding uniformity and ensure adherence to the rules. A Web training tool provides timely feedback to registrars on their abstracting quality, and helps train abstractors throughout Georgia with no cost to the employer.
