NPCR-AERRO Cancer Control and Data Use Workgroup
Purpose and Goals
The NPCR-AERRO Cancer Control and Data Use (CC&DU) Workgroup evaluates how electronic reporting of cancer data and adoption of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) can impact use of cancer surveillance data, such as improved timeliness and data quality for better trend analysis.
The CC&DU workgroup convened its first meeting in October, 2007. NPCR, state central cancer registry programs, and state comprehensive cancer control programs are the main participants. Additional stakeholders are added as needed throughout the process. The workgroup meets regularly.
The purpose of the workgroup is to—
- Model how cancer data are used for current and future needs.
- Identify data sources and/or data elements not available previously.
- Model feedback mechanisms between data use and cancer surveillance.
