The abstract submission deadline has passed. This information is provided for reference purposes.

Paper Sessions
Paper presentations will be approximately 15 minutes in length, with additional time allowed for discussion. Several papers addressing the same issue or theme will be grouped together to form a session. Papers should report recently completed work. Abstracts for papers should include a short statement of the specific problem or topic, a description of the methods or approaches, as well as briefly stated results and conclusions.

Poster Sessions
Poster sessions are display presentations consisting of an exhibit of material that the author personally attends for an assigned period of time (1-2 hours). Results are summarized in the form of graphs, tables, pictures, etc. Copies of a written report or handout may be distributed. Abstracts should follow the same instructions as for paper presentations.

Abstracts must be received
by 5 PM, EST, January 4, 2002.

Notification of the Abstract Review Committee's decision will be made on January 28, 2002.

All abstract submissions should adhere the following abstract instructions and checklist.





Abstract Instructions

Please review guidelines carefully and submit abstracts in the required format. All abstracts must be received by 5 PM, EST, January 4, 2002.

Abstract content

  • Describe briefly the objective(s) of the study or nature of the problem.
  • Include a statement on methods used.
  • Summarize results or outcome.
  • Include a statement of conclusion(s) reached.

Abstract text

  • TYPE ABSTRACT TITLE IN UPPERCASE LETTERS.
  • Type authors' names, and affiliation of the presenting author using upper and lower case letters.
  • List all authors by last name, first name, and middle initial. Underline the presenting author's name.
  • Type text double-spaced, using a standard size font (no smaller than 12 pt.).
  • Limit the body of the abstract to 250 words or less (abstracts that go over this limit will be returned to the authors).

Abstract Checklist (FORM INCLUDED BELOW)

  • Include presenting author's full name, organization, mailing address, E-mail address, and voice and fax numbers.
  • Select the topic that best corresponds to your abstract:
    • Survey Operation or Methodology - Operational and technical issues related to BRFSS design, data collection, and analysis. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, quality control, validity, small area analyses, and combining BRFSS data with data from other sources.
    • Epidemiologic Studies - Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, subgroup analyses, state added modules, and trend analyses.
    • Program Planning and Health Promotion - Use of BRFSS data in development, implementation, or evaluation of health promotion programs and policy decisions.
  • Choose preferred presentation format: Poster, oral presentation, or poster with an oral presentation.
  • Specify audio visual requirements: Proxima (LCD Projector), overhead projector, or other.
