ACTIVITY LIMITATION DUE TO ARTHRITIS OR JOINT SYMPTOMS

  • 208,000 adults have activity limitation due to arthritis or joint symptoms.
  • 10% of the adult population has activity limitation due to arthritis or joint symptoms.
  • 37% of adults with arthritis have activity limitation due to arthritis or joint symptoms.
  • 80,000 ( 8%) men have activity limitation; (34%) of men with DRDX+ have activity limitation due to arth.
  • 127,000 (12%) of women have activity limitation; (39%) of women with DRDX+ have activity lim due to arth.

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, BODY WEIGHT, AND HEALTH STATUS AMONG ADULTS WITH ARTHRITIS

  • Of adults with arthritis 19% report they are inactive and another 39% are insufficiently active.
  • Of adults with arthritis 35% are obese and another 36% are overweight.
  • Of adults with arthritis 25% report fair or poor health.

 

ARTHRITIS AMONG ADULTS WITH DIABETES, HEART DISEASE, AND THEIR RISK FACTORS

  • Of adults with diabetes 78,000 (52%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults with heart disease 77,000 (58%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults with high blood pressure 264,000 (48%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults with high cholesterol 245,000 (44%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults who are overweight 197,000 (27%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults who are obese 190,000 (35%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults who are inactive 101,000 (43%) also have arthritis.

 

MANAGEMENT OF ARTHRITIS SYMPTOMS

  • 425,000 (75%) of adults with arthritis can do everything or most things they want to do.
  • 141,000 (25%) of adults with arthritis can do some things or hardly anything they want to do.
  • 186,000 (33%) of adults with arthritis were told by their doctor to lose weight.
  • 291,000 (51%) of adults with arthritis were told by their doctor to exercise.
  • 65,000 (11%) of adults with arthritis have every taken a course or class to manage their arthritis.
