ACTIVITY LIMITATION DUE TO ARTHRITIS OR JOINT SYMPTOMS

  • 205,000 adults have activity limitation due to arthritis or joint symptoms.
  • 9% of the adult population has activity limitation due to arthritis or joint symptoms.
  • 34% of adults with arthritis have activity limitation due to arthritis or joint symptoms.
  • 83,000 ( 7%) men have activity limitation; (31%) of men with DRDX+ have activity limitation due to arthritis.
  • 123,000 (10%) of women have activity limitation; (36%) of women with DRDX+ have activity limitation due to arthritis.

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, BODY WEIGHT, AND HEALTH STATUS AMONG ADULTS WITH ARTHRITIS

  • Of adults with arthritis 18% report they are inactive and another 41% are insufficiently active.
  • Of adults with arthritis 36% are obese and another 38% are overweight.
  • Of adults with arthritis 24% report fair or poor health.

 

 ARTHRITIS AMONG ADULTS WITH DIABETES, HEART DISEASE, AND THEIR RISK FACTORS

  • Of adults with diabetes 78,000 (51%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults with heart disease 81,000 (57%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults with high blood pressure 286,000 (47%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults with high cholesterol 274,000 (43%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults who are overweight 219,000 (27%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults who are obese 207,000 (36%) also have arthritis.
  • Of adults who are inactive 104,000 (41%) also have arthritis.

 

MANAGEMENT OF ARTHRITIS SYMPTOMS

  • 435,000 (76%) of adults with arthritis can do everything or most things they want to do.
  • 140,000 (24%) of adults with arthritis can do some things or hardly anything they want to do.
  • 175,000 (30%) of adults with arthritis were told by their doctor to lose weight.
  • 328,000 (57%) of adults with arthritis were told by their doctor to exercise.
  • 62,000 (11%) of adults with arthritis have every taken a course or class to manage their arthritis.
