Figure 1 is a map of the locations of ART clinics in the United States and Puerto Rico, 2011.

There are five statistics listed at the bottom of the map:

  • Number of ART clinics in the United States in 2011: 481
  • Number of ART clinics that submitted data in 2011: 451
  • Number of ART cycles reported in 2011: 151,923. Note: This number does not include 6 cycles in which a new treatment procedure was being evaluated (see Figure 2).
  • Number of live-birth deliveries resulting from ART cycles started in 2011: 47,818
  • Number of infants born as a result of ART cycles performed in 2011: 61,610

Figure 2 is a pie chart representing the types of ART cycles in the United States, 2011. Note: Total does not equal 100% due to rounding.

  • Frozen donor 5.1%, (7,733 cycles)
  • Fresh donor 7.1%, (10,797 cycles)
  • Frozen nondonor 21.2%, (32,180 cycles)
  • Fresh nondonor 66.6%, (101,213 cycles)
  • New treatment procedures <0.1%, (6 cycles)

Figure 3 is a pie chart representing ART use by age group in the United States, 2011.

  • Age: <35, 39.0%, (59,322 cycles)
  • Age: 35–37, 20.0%, (30,309 cycles)
  • Age: 38–40, 19.7%, (29,900 cycles)
  • Age: 41–42, 10.5%, (15,995 cycles)
  • Age: 43–44, 5.9%, (8,926 cycles)
  • Age: >44, 4.9%, (7,471 cycles)

Figure 4 is a bar graph representing the types of ART cycles by age group in the United States, 2011.

  • Age <35, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 97%. Of these nondonor cycles, 71% were fresh nondonor and 26% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 3%. Of these donor cycles, 2% were fresh donor and 1% was frozen donor.
  • Age 35–37, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 94%. Of these nondonor cycles, 69% were fresh nondonor and 25% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 5%. Of these donor cycles, 3% were fresh donor and 2% were frozen donor. Note: Total does not equal 100% due to rounding.
  • Age 38–40, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 90%. Of these nondonor cycles, 71% were fresh nondonor and 19% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 10%. Of these donor cycles, 6% were fresh donor and 4% were frozen donor.
  • Age 41–42, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 80%. Of these nondonor cycles, 67% were fresh nondonor and 13% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 20%. Of these donor cycles, 12% were fresh donor and 8% were frozen donor.
  • Age 43–44, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 63%. Of these nondonor cycles, 53% were fresh nondonor and 10% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 37%. Of these donor cycles, 22% were fresh donor and 15% were frozen donor.
  • Age >44, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 30%. Of these nondonor cycles, 21% were fresh nondonor and 9% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 69%. Of these donor cycles, 36% were fresh donor and 33% were frozen donor. Note: Total does not equal 100% due to rounding.

Figure 5 is a bar graph representing percentages of ART cycles that resulted in live births by type of ART and clinic size in the United States, 2011. Note: Clinic size is based on the number of ART cycles performed in 2011.

  • Clinic size: <93 cycles, Fresh nondonor 31%, Frozen nondonor 29%, Fresh donor 40%, Frozen donor 30%
  • Clinic size: 93–179 cycles, Fresh nondonor 30%, Frozen nondonor 29%, Fresh donor 48%, Frozen donor 33%
  • Clinic size: 180–415 cycles, Fresh nondonor 30%, Frozen nondonor 30%, Fresh donor 50%, Frozen donor 31%
  • Clinic size: >415 cycles, Fresh nondonor 29%, Frozen nondonor 33%, Fresh donor 50%, Frozen donor 34%
