Figure 1 is a map of the locations of ART clinics in the United States and Puerto Rico, 2010.
There are five statistics listed at the bottom of the map:
- Number of ART clinics in the United States in 2010: 474
- Number of ART clinics that submitted data in 2010: 443
- Number of ART cycles reported in 2010: 147,260. Note: This number does not include 4 cycles in which a new treatment procedure was being evaluated (see Figure 2, page 6).
- Number of live-birth deliveries resulting from ART cycles started in 2010: 47,090
- Number of infants born as a result of ART cycles performed in 2010: 61,564
Figure 2: Types of ART Cycles—United States, 2010.
Figure 2 is a pie chart representing the types of ART cycles in the United States, 2010. Note: Total does not equal 100% due to rounding.
- Frozen donor 4.9%, (7,162 cycles)
- Fresh donor 7.4%, (10,849 cycles)
- Frozen nondonor 19.3%, (28,425 cycles)
- Fresh nondonor 68.5%, (100,824 cycles)
- New treatment procedures <0.1%, (4 cycles)
Figure 3 is a pie chart representing ART use by age group in the United States, 2010.
- Age: <35, 38.9%, (57,299 cycles)

- Age: >44, 4.6%, (6,790 cycles)
Figure 4 is a bar graph representing the types of ART cycles by age group in the United States, 2010.
- Age <35, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 97%. Of these nondonor cycles, 73% were fresh nondonor and 24% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 3%. Of these donor cycles, 2% were fresh donor and 1% was frozen donor.
- Age 35–37, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 95%. Of these nondonor cycles, 72% were fresh nondonor and 23% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 6%. Of these donor cycles, 4% were fresh donor and 2% were frozen donor. Note: Total does not equal 100% due to rounding.
- Age 38–40, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 90%. Of these nondonor cycles, 73% were fresh nondonor and 17% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 11%. Of these donor cycles, 7% were fresh donor and 4% were frozen donor. Note: Total does not equal 100% due to rounding.
- Age 41–42, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 79%. Of these nondonor cycles, 67% were fresh nondonor and 12% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 20%. Of these donor cycles, 13% were fresh donor and 7% were frozen donor. Note: Total does not equal 100% due to rounding.
- Age 43–44, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 63%. Of these nondonor cycles, 54% were fresh nondonor and 9% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 37%. Of these donor cycles, 23% were fresh donor and 14% were frozen donor.
- Age >44, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 27%. Of these nondonor cycles, 20% were fresh nondonor and 7% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 73%. Of these donor cycles, 40% were fresh donor and 33% were frozen donor.
Figure 5: Percentages of ART Cycles That Resulted in Live Births, by Type of ART and Clinic Size—United States, 2010.
Figure 5 is a bar graph representing percentages of ART cycles that resulted in live births by type of ART and clinic size in the United States, 2010. Note: Clinic size is based on the number of ART cycles performed in 2010.
- Clinic size: <94 cycles, Fresh nondonor 29.3%, Frozen nondonor 23.5%, Fresh donor 44.4%, Frozen donor 31.5%
- Clinic size: 94–185 cycles, Fresh nondonor 31.4%, Frozen nondonor 30.5%, Fresh donor 48.7%, Frozen donor 32.1%
