HIV Prevention Activities
Farmworker Justice, in collaboration with the National LGBT Health Education Center, hosted a webinar titled “Providing Care and Support for Transgender Rural Latino/as and Migrant Farmworkers.” The webinar featured Dr. Jennifer Hastings of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and Anna Rick of California Rural Legal Assistance. Both presenters have extensive first‐hand experience in caring for and assisting these population and lead participants in understanding aspects of the life and health care experiences of their transgender patients and clients. Webinar participants learned methods for asking appropriate, sensitive questions about gender identity concerns, and strategies for providing sensitive, inclusive care, based on cultural humility. Dr. Hastings and Ms. Rick also explained their model of inter‐agency collaboration that works to help clients find legal and community supports to enhance their health and well‐being.
TheNOBCO Board of Directors and County Officials are partnered with other agencies and organizations to bring awareness to World AIDS Day. Members and partners collaborated and promoted the efforts of collective engagement, which highlighted local initiatives, related to this national concern and health issue.

"Turning the Tide Together” - Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Stigma and Discrimination and Zero AIDS Related Deaths
Community Health and Awareness Ministry, Inc. and Gilead Sciences in observance of World AIDS Day 2013, presented a dialogue on: “Women & HIV” and featured speaker Carol Mclean-Long, MD on Tuesday, December 17th, 2013. The event was co – sponsored by the New York City Council Faith Based HIV/AIDS Initiative and the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS of New York City. Dinner was served by: PROJECT STREET BEAT who also provided HIV Testing.

Farmworker Justice’s Aliados project is a part of the Act Against AIDS Leadership Initiative. The goal of the project is to increase the HIV knowledge, awareness, and action of non-HIV focused organizations through webinars, newsletters, social media, and other activities.
Kudos to AAALI partner Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc! The organization received the Excellence in Education Programming Award for its HIV/AIDS initiative, A34Life, at the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA) Annual Meeting on December 6, 2013.
The AFA is an organization dedicated to aligning the fraternity/sorority and higher education experiences through their programs and meetings, publications, networking opportunities, and other resources.
