Preventive Medicine Residency and Fellowship (PMR/F)

More about the Programs

The residency (PMR) and the fellowship (PMF) offer:

  • Mentoring by experienced public health practitioners
  • Hands-on experience in public health and preventive medicine practice
  • Classroom training to enhance professional growth
  • MPH coursework for physicians in PMR

 

Residents and fellows receive:

  • Salary and benefits
  • Moving expenses
  • Travel to PMR/F-sponsored training
  • Tuition support for a MPH degree for residents

 

Professional Growth

PMR/F programs provide training in:

  • Leadership
  • Management
  • Policy development
  • Program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Translation of clinical science and epidemiology into public health and preventive medicine practice
  • Hands-on experience in managing the many factors that influence public health practice

 

Relocation

Residents and fellows must attend orientation in Atlanta and are required to relocate for their assignments. Individuals with prior experience at a state or local health department will be assigned to a CDC location. Individuals with prior experience at the federal level will be assigned to a state or local health department.
