Prior to joining WSD, Ms. Thomas was employed with Mirant Services, LLC as an Environmental Analyst responsible for managing the environmental compliance program at the Potomac River coal-fired generating plant. She has served in the United States Army active, as a duty Environmental Science Officer at Fort Bragg, NC, where she was the Chief of the Installations’ Environmental Health Section.
3:30 Gretchen Giannelli is an ORISE Fellow with the US Environmental Protection Agency in the Water Security Division located in Washington, DC. She is involved in communications and outreach for The Community-Based Water Resiliency Program and the Key Features of an Active and Effective Security Program for Water Utilities.
This presentation will focus on the CDC's recommendations for increased public health agency involvement in community water preparedness and more collaboration between public health agencies and water utilities. These recommendations resulted from an investigation by CDC following an outbreak of acute gastrointestinal illness during water service interruptions in two rural communities in 2010.
The Water Sector has tools and resources to offer the Public Health Sector in meeting the CDC recommendations. In addition, our tools and resources help achieve the PHIN goal to increase communication between public health agencies and their other partners including the Water Sector.
