Champion recognition of laboratories' essential role in advancing the public's health

Advocacy iconThe Nation’s public health laboratories perform critical services that protect the public’s health. Those same laboratories are also facing decreasing budgets and staff cuts. Supporting laboratories in sustaining these critically needed services is a high priority for the CDC, and LSPPPO is coordinating the effort. LSPPPO engages partners and stakeholders to collaboratively develop long-term sustainability plans that effectively address funding and workforce issues.

LSPPPO plays a key role in supporting the Nation’s public health laboratory system. As facilitator of the Laboratory Efficiencies Initiative (LEI) LSPPPO aims to assist CDC programs in streamlining their technical and financial support to public health laboratories, reducing duplicative reporting requirements, and researching standard testing platforms. LSPPPO is already looking to informatics and other technologies in order to improve laboratory efficiency and quickly disseminate critical information to public health practitioners and policymakers at all levels of the system.
