About PRS: Systematic Reviews

PRS routinely conducts systematic reviews of the HIV/AIDS behavioral prevention research literature using standard procedures for searching and evaluating the empirical evidence. These systematic reviews enable PRS to monitor the progress of behavioral intervention research.

Efficacy Review

The PRS efficacy review is a systematic review of the HIV/AIDS behavioral prevention research literature that identifies HIV evidence-based behavioral interventions (EBIs). The PRS team conducts ongoing efficacy reviews to identify new EBIs as they are reported in the scientific literature. More information about the PRS efficacy review process can be found under Efficacy Reviews.

Quantitative Systematic Reviews

PRS has published numerous quantitative systematic reviews of HIV behavioral interventions for various target populations, using meta-analysis to synthesis findings of included intervention evaluations. Through these reviews, PRS has identified intervention strategies that work best for reducing HIV-related risk behaviors or new STD diagnoses across a wide range of at-risk populations. A list of the published PRS quantitative systematic reviews can be found under PRS Publications by Topic.

Qualitative Systematic Reviews

When a particular HIV behavioral research area of interest is not extensive enough to synthesize quantitatively, PRS summarizes the research using qualitative methods, such frequencies and cross tabs of descriptive data. A list of the published PRS qualitative systematic reviews can be found under PRS Publications by Topic.
