Talking Points
The School Health Guidelines to Prevent Unintentional Injuries and Violence are based on an extensive literature review and input from a 16-member expert panel. The panel examined more than 200 strategies to determine if there is evidence that each is effective, how effective each is; how feasible each is for school implementation; and what priority each should be assigned. Those who reviewed and commented on guideline drafts included federal, state, and local agencies, and national organizations representing state and local policymakers, educators, parents, allied health professionals, and experts in unintentional injury, violence and suicide prevention. The revised guidelines were published in the December 2001 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. We are now in the dissemination and diffusion phase.
