Talking Points

The SHPPS study also examined violence- and suicide-related topics and skills taught in the classroom. Almost all schools address techniques to avoid interpersonal conflicts and fights, anger management, and handling stress. Nearly two-thirds address dating violence and sexual assault. But fewer than half help students understand how to recognize stressors or signs of depression, or what to do if someone is thinking about suicide.
