Nutrition and Physical Activity

Collage: A woman exercising and a family gathered for dinner.Good nutrition and regular physical activity are important for good health and development. Good nutrition can help lower your risk for many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, some cancers, diabetes, osteoporosis, and obesity. Regular exercise reduces the risk for many diseases. It helps control weight; makes muscles, bones, and joints stronger; improves lower body strength and balance; improves sleep; and can relieve stress and anxiety.

We learn many of our eating behaviors as children. However, it's never too late to adopt healthier behaviors. Family and friends can shape our eating and exercise behaviors. Taking steps to prepare and eat healthier foods benefits you and your family. Set an example for your family members by walking or exercising more.
