Definitions
for MSAs are issued by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to be
used in presentation of statistics by agencies of
the federal government. The metropolitan areas used on the AIDS Public
Information Data Set are the MSAs for all areas except the six New England states. For
these states, the New England County Metropolitan Areas (NECMA, also defined
by OMB) are used. Metropolitan areas are named for a central city in the
MSA or NECMA and may include several counties and cross state boundaries.
The
AIDS Public Information Data Set contains data from all MSAs with 500,000
or more population, and from MSAs with 100,000 to 500,000 population in
Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho,
Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland,
Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada,
New Hampshire,
New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, OH, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania,
Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington,
West Virginia, and Wyoming
