Compendium of Evidence-Based HIV Behavioral Interventions: Risk Reduction Chapter

This Compendium chapter focuses on the HIV risk reduction (RR) evidence-based behavioral interventions (EBIs) that have been identified by PRS as either best-evidence or good-evidence through the efficacy review of the HIV behavioral intervention literature. These interventions focus on sex- or drug-related risk behaviors among persons at risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV and represent the strongest HIV behavioral interventions in the literature to date that have been rigorously evaluated and have demonstrated efficacy in reducing HIV or STD incidence or HIV-related risk behaviors or increasing safer behaviors, based on the PRS RR efficacy criteria. Newly added risk reduction EBIs are highlighted here. A complete listing of individual-, group-, and community-level RR EBIs is available below.

The Risk Reduction Chapter of the Compendium now includes 74 HIV risk reduction (RR) EBIs, identified from the scientific literature published or in press through December 2009. These include 44 Best EBIs (43 individual- and group-level and 1 community-level) and 30 Good EBIs (25 individual- and group-level and 5 community-level)

The 4 NEW Risk Reduction (RR) EBIs include:

2 Best-evidence and 2 Good-evidence interventions

3 individual- and group-level interventions
and 1 community-level intervention

The 3 NEW individual- and group-level EBIs are:

The 1 NEW community-level EBI is:

(added on August 12, 2011)

Listing of all RR EBIs

A complete listing of RR EBIs identified by PRS is provided below, along with a stratified listing of RR EBIs by key population and intervention characteristics.

The PRS project is continuously conducting the efficacy review to identify new HIV risk reduction evidence-based behavioral interventions. This website will be updated periodically to provide timely information to the prevention field.
