The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program

On July 1st, the WTC Health Program goes into effect. The WTC Health Program was established by the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 ("9/11 Act"). The 9/11 Act creates a Federal program to support monitoring and treatment for emergency responders, recovery and cleanup workers of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania; and residents, building occupants, and area workers who were adversely affected by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City. The 9/11 Act also authorizes education and outreach for individuals eligible for monitoring and treatment benefits, the collection and analysis of physical and mental health data, and research to better understand health conditions associated with the terrorist attacks.

The health monitoring and treatment program is established under Title I of the Act. It is administered by CDC/NIOSH. Title II of the Act provides for a compensation program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice.

What's changed?

The WTC Health Program will continue to provide medical diagnostic and treatment services only for conditions related to exposures at the WTC site; as determined by program experts. There is no cost for current members or new applicants as long as you receive your medical evaluation and treatment through approved program health providers and fill prescriptions for approved conditions at participating pharmacies.
